Be Polite, Be Firm, Be Respectful

When dealing with other people, that hold office in the same jurisdiction as you, it is important to be respectful. State, county, city, and home owner associations tend to be made up of people you either know, or have some knowledge of.

When crafting policies, or creating laws, it is important to be heard while at the same time disagreeing with another office holder. You can be respectful and still get your point across. You can be polite and still get your point across. You can be firm and still get your point across.

If you watch CSPAN, at all, one of the first things you will notice (from members of one of the oldest governing bodies on the planet) is name calling. Name calling is not respectful. Neither is inferring that the opposing body is less than intelligent.

While name calling might be fun, and while the congress of the Unted States engages in such things, I think it would be wise to not be like congress.
